AJAHN BRAHM IN SYDNEY

Ajahn Brahm is one of the most insightful, unpredictable, and popular Dhamma teachers in Australia and internationally. He visited Sydney to speak at this year’s Mitra conference.

As part of the Buddhist Council of NSW’s Buddhist Festival Month, Santi Forest Monastery and its supporters organized a talk for Ajahn Brahm at the Roselea Community Center on Monday 3rd May, 2010.

We were uncertain of how many people would come, as we have not held a similar event before. We were thinking, maybe 2-300 people. But in the end, about 1000 people came! The hall was jam-packed, and everyone enjoyed two hours of Ajahn Brahm’s extraordinarily engaging Dhamma. We were also blessed with the presence of several Sangha members, including Bhikkhuni Dhammananda from Thailand.

This outstanding attendance did not come about through any major promotion or organizational backing, but through great work done in a short time by supporters in having flyers printed, contacting media, and most important, word of mouth. It was so amazing to see the community coming together, seeing what had to be done, and just getting it done. Volunteers appeared for everything, from preparing tea and coffee, to directing the parking, to stacking chairs. Our very great thanks and appreciation go out to all of you who helped make this such a wonderful evening.

Rest assured, this will not be the last. We’ll be inviting Ajahn Brahm back again, so stay tuned…
